Descendents talk about new album "Hypercaffium Spazzinate"

Karl Alvarez, Milo Aukerman, Bill Stevenson and Stephen Egerton of pop-punk pioneers Descendents discussed with Rolling Stone Magazine the personal trials that inspired their new album "Hypercaffium Spazzinate" out on July 29th via Epitaph Records. Here's a little extract:

"I think there's quite a bit on the record that's kind of unflinchingly looking at getting older," the heavily tattooed, gruff-voiced Alvarez says of Hypercaffium. "And it's nice because I think a lot of rock bands aren't very honest about that; they all want to exist in some universe where they're perpetually between the ages of 21 and 35. We're codgers; we're not afraid to admit it."

You can read the entire interview right here and listen to the songs "Victim Of Me" and "Shameless Halo" off this new album.

Skumdum, fast melodic punk from Sweden

Skumdum is a Swedish punk rock band from Skellefteå. Their music is a blend of skate punk, hardcore and Swedish trallpunk. The band was formed in 1993 and has released 6 albums, numerous singles and a split album with the American punk band Hero of our time.

During the first decade they sang exclusively in Swedish, but in 2003 they switched to English in order to reach more listeners. Skumdum is today one of the biggest punk rock bands in Scandinavia and has also grown a devoted fan base in Europe and Japan

The album you can listen above is a compilation of their early releases. Songs 1-4 are taken from the "Lisa" EP (or Self-Titled EP), songs 4-17 from the "Demoner" album (my personal favourite), #18 "Utan Svar" is an outtake from the Demoner Recording, the #19 'Förakt' is taken from the "Alternative Heroes" compilation and the last song is taken from the "3 i En # 2" compilation.

My favourite songs? "Demoner" and "Till Minne Av Kåge".

Pulley singer, Scott Radinsky, underwent triple-bypass surgery

SoCal punk rock act Pulley singer and the bullpen coach for the Los Angeles Angels, Scott Radinsky knew something was wrong as he walked up the long flight of stairs from the Oakland Coliseum dugout to the Angels’ clubhouse after a 5-1 win over the A’s on April 13.

"I just felt weird", Radinsky said Tuesday. "I sat down in my chair, and I didn’t feel right".

Medical tests determined that two main arteries in his heart were blocked, the damage caused by the aggressive radiation treatments the former big league reliever underwent for Hodgkin’s disease in 1994.

A week after he fell ill in Oakland, he underwent triple-bypass surgery at Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach on April 20.

blink-182 - Dude Ranch turns 19 today

"Dude Ranch" is the second studio album by American pop punk band blink-182. Recorded at Big Fish Studios in Encinitas, California with producer Mark Trombino, the album was released in the United States on June 17, 1997, 19 years ago today, jointly through independent label Cargo Music and major label MCA Records

MCA signed the band in 1996 following moderate sales of their debut Cheshire Cat (1995) and growing popularity of the trio in Australia. Dude Ranch was the band's final recording released on Cargo and their last with original drummer Scott Raynor before he was dismissed from the band in 1998.

The band recorded the album during the winter of 1996–1997. With lyrical material written on the band's nonstop tours over the previous years, as well as completed songs, the band recorded with Trombino in sessions that lasted for five weeks. During the production for Dude Ranch, the members of Blink-182 were plagued with difficulties only made worse by the rushed schedule: bassist Mark Hoppus and guitarist Tom DeLonge, co-vocalists for the band, were having vocal problems and Raynor had to record his drum tracks with both heels broken, on crutches.

Promoted by lead single "Dammit", the record was released in the summer of 1997 and was a success. "Dammit" became a rock radio hit single and helped the band gain mainstream credibility as they toured worldwide on the Vans Warped Tour. The band toured exhaustively behind the album, creating tensions which led to the firing of Raynor in mid-1998. Three more singles were released, with "Josie" gathering MTV play and charting highly in Australia. Dude Ranch eventually grew in sales and was certified platinum in the US by the end of the decade.

Jim Lindberg talks about the new Pennywise album

Jim Lindberg, singer of the US punk rock classics Pennywise have revealed on a recent interview with Communities Digital News some details of their new album.

How far along are you guys on the new Pennywise?

Not very far! It’s been a point of contention. I really, really have been pressing that we really gotta get into the studio and it’s kind of been doing chores and then people have to get back to their families and things like that. It just kind of keeps getting put off, but I know everyone has a batch of songs. I’ve got ideas for songs and I know Fletcher was playing some stuff the other day that sounded cool, but we just have to get in there and do it, that desire to play has to be there from everyone involved, and that’s why I’m doing so much Wraths stuff because if Pennywise isn’t gonna practice and get in the studio and write songs, then I’m not gonna sit around twiddling my thumbs.
I’m ready and willing to get into the studio and that’s what everyone says, but they don’t seem to be doing it, so I just said, “Okay, well, you let me know when you’re ready.” I hate to sound pathetic, but if anybody’s been in a band as long as I have been, then they’d understand that the politics of getting into the studio shouldn’t be that difficult, but sometimes they are.
