Greg Graffin: "Bad Religion is definitely gearing up for a new album"

On a recent interview with Las Vega Weekly, the US classic punk rockers Bad Religion frontman Greg Graffin has talked about their upcoming album among other things.

Speaking of Bad Religion, he confirms that the band is “definitely gearing up for a new album,” since it has been more than four years since the release of its last LP, True North. (“Our fans are getting itchy,” he laughs.) Graffin is also working on a novel proposal based around a complex, evolution-based query.

Heartsounds announce new one-song album "Dualistic Nihilist"

US female fronted melodic punk rockers Heartsounds will be releasing a new album titled "Dualistic Nihilist". It's going to be a one 20 minute long song that will be on out June 2nd through Creator-Destructor Records. This is what the band said on Facebook.

We are incredibly excited to announce our new album, "Dualistic Nihilist"! This is not your traditional full-length record, but instead a 20 minute long epic. One singular track, unlike anything we have ever written. After writing 3 full-length records since our formation in 2009, we wanted to challenge ourselves with something different - an endeavor more unique and exploratory of uncharted musical territory, combined with the lyrical recreation of a true story centered around severe mental illness and turmoil. "Dualistic Nihilist" is certainly a risk, but one that we feel has resulted in the most emotionally and musically expansive record that we've ever made - a 20 minute journey that does not repeat itself nor overstay it's welcome. This is HEARTSOUNDS in our purest form, free of the confines of traditional album structure.

"Dualistic Nihilist" will be available to stream/purchase digitally next Friday, June 2nd through Creator-Destructor Records. Preorders for the LP/CD will launch that day, and will ship a few weeks later. There will be tons of awesome preorder package options, so keep your eyes out on Friday!

One week and counting....

Ten Foot Pole stream new song "I Don't Want To Go"

US classic melodic punk rockers Ten Foot Pole have released a new song titled "I Don't Want To Go",  taken from their upcoming new album "Setlist" which will be out on May 26th through Cyber Tracks Records.

Dennis Jagard states:

"The lyric idea for ‘I Don’t Want to Go’ struck during one of the frequent, for me, moments when saying goodbye to my wife and two boys, as I prepared to leave on a multi-month tour. I knew that especially the kids would be substantially older, and different, the next time we would be together. For a while I was excited and happy about writing a fun, melodic song, particularly when my 4th grader sang it before school with a big smile on his face. Later the implications of the lyrics took on more weight, as my Mom asked me to sing and play while I was visiting during her chemotherapy sessions, and partway through the song it dawned on me that the lyric could be universal, powerful and urgent."

The Offspring’s Dexter Holland completes Ph.D. in Molecular Biology

US punk rock classics The Offspring's frontman Dexter Holland has graduated from the University of Southern California with a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology. His thesis is titled "Discovery of mature microRNA sequences within the protein-coding regions of global HIV-1 genomes: predictions of novel mechanisms for viral infection and pathogenicity" and you can read it right here.

Dexter states:

Hey everybody,

Dexter here. Well we’re gearing up for another busy year touring (and recording), and I can’t wait. In fact I’m actually writing this from our tour stop in Charlotte, NC before our show here this weekend. I know I haven’t posted much for awhile – cause I’ve been busy!

This is sort of an announcement that I completed my dissertation defense and that means that I’ll be graduating on May 11 with a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from the University of Southern California.

You might ask, why are you getting a Ph.D.? Well, pick the correct answer from the choices below!
A) I was bored
B) I like suffering
C) I am interested in the molecular dynamics of HIV infection and of virus:host interactions in general

No, the answer’s not all three!…actually, as many of you already know I started the Ph.D. a long time ago but put it on hold when we started touring a lot. I finally went back a few years ago.To finish I had to research and write a thesis, or dissertation, which is kind of like the biggest term paper you’ll ever do (mine is about 175 pages).

My research focused on the human immunodeficiency virus, or HIV, the virus which causes AIDS.I am interested in virology and wanted to contribute in some small way to the knowledge which has been learned about HIV andAIDS.This terrible disease remains a worldwide epidemic – over 35 million people worldwide are currently infected and living with the HIV virus.Over one million people a year die from this disease.

My research is not meant to be a cure or even an immediate step toward a cure, but I believe that by adding to the vast amount of information that we’ve learned about HIV in the last 30 years or so, we’ll get there.Toward that end, I’m going to continue to do research, and you’ll probably see some of my research papers get published here and there over the next few years.

So, what does this all mean for the band? It means…the BAND IS BACK ON! Well, we never really stopped touring and making records, but we’ll be doing a bunch of shows all around the world this year plus recording new stuff every chance we get. Look for new music by us out soon.

See you on the road! Dexter.
